MMTA Outlines Trucking Needs in Reponse to Key Bridge Collapse

March 29, 2024

In a letter to Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld and numerous government leaders today, Maryland Motor Truck Association identified 6 needs for assistance as a result of the tragic Key Bridge collapse.

Those needs are:
  1. Driver hours of service extensions.
  2. Electronic logging device exceptions.
  3. International Registration Plan waivers.
  4. International Fuel Tax Agreement waivers.
  5. Limited route openings.
  6. Financial assistance for local business.
Because the needs identified cross Federal, state, and local jurisdictions, MMTA is asked Secretary Wiedefeld to coordinate with Maryland Governor Wes Moore so that he may serve as an intermediary between the various governmental layers to ensure swift action is taken to protect those motor carriers who are now at risk due to the loss of freight and/or increased operating costs.
