Miltenberger Threepeats at the MD Truck Driving Championships! Lemar Wins Delaware!

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, MMTA hosted both the Maryland and Delaware Truck Driving Championships. Mike Miltenberger of Pitt Ohio completed a threepeat as the Grand Champion in Maryland, while winning his fifth overall title. Mike has now been the Grand Champion in 2025, 2024, 2023, 2018, and 2017. He competed in the 4-axle class.

For the first time, MMTA also welcomed competitors from Delaware, who were contending for their state’s title. Kevin Lemar of FedEx Freight outlasted 30 drivers to win the Championship. Lemar competed in the sleeper berth class.

For their accomplishments, both Miltenberger and Lemar received trophies, cash awards, and the chance to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships (aka “the Super Bowl of Safety”) with the other class winners from their states in August.

In Maryland the team award went to Pitt Ohio, with XPO taking the team title in Delaware. The team award is given to the company with the highest average score among its drivers. The Rookie of the Year awards went to Larry King of Giant Food (MD) and James Johnson of Walmart (DE).

The Championships are a true test of professional driving skills.  The competition included a field course that required drivers to execute maneuvers in conditions similar to those encountered on America's highways. Drivers were also tested on their knowledge of safety rules and regulations, as well as their ability to inspect vehicles and determine that they were in safe operating condition. All competitors must be accident free for at least the previous year, with many of them safely operating their trucks for several decades.
